The Kytos Project - Excellent Young Adult Fiction From UK Author

Genre: Young Adult Fiction

Title: The Kytos Project

AUTHOR: John von Kesmark

Jimmy, Jack, Bill, and Ashok live in 2070 Britain. They started the day playing cricket on the beach then became too curious about a restricted area at the edge of the beach. Their exploration landed three of them as prisoners of the Rathings – the genetically engineered half-rat half-human breed currently in power. The fourth boy became a guest of the Magars – the half-Magpie half-human breed currently at war with the Rathings. The story that unfolds challenges all the boys, one of them requiring a wheelchair due to spina bifida, to their physical and mental limits as they seek their way home.

John von Kesmark creatively uses genetic engineering as the basis for this suspenseful tale of what could result if a mad scientist has the power to play God. With crisply detailed visual descriptions, the author explores potential results of possible DNA combinations that leave the reader yearning, yet also afraid, to turn the page.

John von Kesmark lives on the River Thames. He has traveled on business throughout the USA, Middle East, Africa and the Far East and has published many non-fiction articles. The Kytos Project is his first published fiction.

This novel is the first in an expected trilogy. It is a great futuristic story that will entertain teenage and adult readers. This is a recommended read for any age interested in the genre, especially those who like to ponder ‘what if’ scenarios of the future. Allbooks Reviews.

Seeing the Light - Author June Chen - Book Review

June Chen's debut novel, "Seeing the Light: A Novel" takes you on a lifetime of events of a selfish and self-centered girl awakening to the meaning of life. The storyline unfolds similar to a soap opera, whereas a succession of events occurs to Rhea, the only daughter of a farming family with three brothers. Her dad nicknamed her Princess, a bit sarcastic because of her lack of feminine vanity. The family moved from the mid-west to the Central Coast of California to raise cattle just west of San Luis Obispo. The story begins in California when Rhea was a young girl, and follows her into maturity and eventually her "Seeing the Light."

June Chen writes in a way of conveying her story without overly embellishing descriptions, nor filling in details unrelated to the story. She is not pretentious with her choice of words, wanting the book to be easily understood for its meaning by everyone - mostly by young adults. It is a brisk read, and filled with many lessons learned affording the reader quality time and is an enjoyable book.

She tells a story of an ordinary family having some extraordinary experiences. Rhea is an observer to some bizarre behavior of local farm workers, wanders, and hitchhikers. She holds steadfast with her zero tolerance for alcohol and drug use while seeing others fail at the challenge. She finds love in the aftermath of an event by a person coincidently placed in her life that wouldn't have been there if it weren't for an unfortunate incident. Not to expose the plot, Rhea comes to her life changing reality with the sobering circumstances of a tragedy which is no doubt the worst kind imaginable.

June Chen takes Rhea's tragedy and begins a journey into a dream sequence. Rhea's dream recurs and the characters within the dream play out. In a montage of religious beliefs, spiritual encounters, demonic characters and self actualizations, she masterfully shows the reader just how Rhea's thoughts had altered her personality so dramatically. In essence, June Chen explains how the core of her character changed thus bringing the superficial behavioral difference to the surface. From originally thinking that generosity and charity as shown by her parents were a form of weakness of character, she matured to having humility and kindness in a way which seemed disgusting to her in her youth. This is a significant accomplishment of June Chen's writing technique, one that can be understood and assimilated by maturing adults.

What takes a lifetime and a horrific experience in Rhea's life can be learned by others in a few hours by picking up and reading "Seeing the Light."

The Marijuana Policy Tipping Point: A conversation with author Christopher Fichtner, MD

Christopher Fichtner is a psychiatrist and the former mental health director for the state of Illinois. In his new book, Cannabinomics: The Marijuana Policy Tipping Point www.cannabinomics.com , Fichtner predicts that marijuana policy is about to change radically. As Fichtner points out, three public policy trajectories converging. The medical marijuana movement is gaining momentum. People are increasingly waking up to the fact that drug prohibition creates more public health problems than it solves. And, in the same way that the Great Depression caused people to reprioritize how we spend our public dollars, the current economic crisis has got people thinking that bringing the biggest cash crop in the US out into the open might not be such a bad idea. Reason.tv's Paul Feine sat down with Dr. Fichtner to learn more about the imminent marijuana policy tipping point. Approximately 10 minutes. Produced by Paul Feine and Alex Manning. Author Combines Wonderful Story and Environmental Issues to Produce a Great Book

Image : http://www.flickr.com

In writing an environmentally-friendly book, they were able to bring adult and child together in a new way that hasn't been known to man in a very long time. By reading this book, you will see that it has the power to rekindle any mind, young or old.

Every photograph tells a story. The story that it tells is perhaps unknown to the reader but not to the creator. The presence of the exotic pictures gives the reader so many new ideas and you can feel your imagination widening by the turning of every page. This book shows us that every child has the ability to visualize a whole new world outside of their own and that they should embrace it, not hide from it. Barry and Tracy Kane have put together a book that just might have enough influence to change our generation.

Tracy Kane majored in illustration at Philadelphia College of Art and worked
in Public Television as a commercial artist for several years. She created the highly successful "Fairy Houses Series" of children's books with her husband, Barry Kane who is a photographer.

In conclusion, by adding personal stories from real people and real 'Fairy Houses', it makes the book that much more relative. This book is a beautiful piece of art and it just might have the potential to break the barrier between humans and technology. Highly Recommended for parents wanting to create a stronger bond between their children and nature by Reviewer: Allbooks Reviews
