Stieg Larsson's Millennium Trilogy Deluxe Boxed Set: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest, Plus On Stieg Larsson Review

Stieg Larsson's Millennium Trilogy Deluxe Boxed Set: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest, Plus On Stieg Larsson Specifications

Get to know the bestselling series that Amazon (and its customers) have loved from the very beginning with this deluxe, slip-cased set of all three hardcover books in the Millennium Trilogy, along with On Stieg Larsson, a never-before-published collection of reflections about and correspondence with the author. Read our reviews of the books:

Amazon Best of the Month, September 2008: Once you start The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, there's no turning back. This debut thriller--the first in a trilogy from the late Stieg Larsson--is a serious page-turner rivaling the best of Charlie Huston and Michael Connelly. Mikael Blomkvist, a once-respected financial journalist, watches his professional life rapidly crumble around him. Prospects appear bleak until an unexpected (and unsettling) offer to resurrect his name is extended by an old-school titan of Swedish industry. The catch--and there's always a catch--is that Blomkvist must first spend a year researching a mysterious disappearance that has remained unsolved for nearly four decades. With few other options, he accepts and enlists the help of investigator Lisbeth Salander, a misunderstood genius with a cache of authority issues. Little is as it seems in Larsson's novel, but there is at least one constant: you really don't want to mess with the girl with the dragon tattoo.

Amazon Best of the Month, July 2009: The girl with the dragon tattoo is back. Stieg Larsson's seething heroine, Lisbeth Salander, once again finds herself paired with journalist Mikael Blomkvist on the trail of a sinister criminal enterprise. Only this time, Lisbeth must return to the darkness of her own past (more specifically, an event coldly known as "All the Evil") if she is to stay one step ahead--and alive. The Girl Who Played with Fire is a break-out-in-a-cold-sweat thriller that crackles with stunning twists and dismisses any talk of a sophomore slump. Fans of Larsson's prior work will find even more to love here, and readers who do not find their hearts racing within the first five pages may want to confirm they still have a pulse. Expect healthy doses of murder, betrayal, and deceit, as well as enough espresso drinks to fuel downtown Seattle for months.

Amazon Best Books of the Month, May 2010 As the finale to Stieg Larsson's Millennium Trilogy, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest is not content to merely match the adrenaline-charged pace that made international bestsellers out of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and The Girl Who Played with Fire. Instead, it roars with an explosive storyline that blows the doors off the series and announces that the very best has been saved for last. A familiar evil lies in wait for Lisbeth Salander, but this time, she must do more than confront the miscreants of her past; she must destroy them. Much to her chagrin, survival requires her to place a great deal of faith in journalist Mikael Blomkvist and trust his judgment when the stakes are highest. To reveal more of the plot would be criminal, as Larsson's mastery of the unexpected is why millions have fallen hard for his work. But rest assured that the odds are again stacked, the challenges personal, and the action fraught with neck-snapping revelations in this snarling conclusion to a thrilling triad. This closing chapter to The Girl's pursuit of justice is guaranteed to leave readers both satisfied and saddened once the final page has been turned.

Remove Age Spots With the Help of These Wonder Ingredients

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Let me begin with a question; do you know the real root cause behind age spots? Let us be honest, because if you do not know the root cause then the chances are that you do not even know how to remove them successfully. Well, do not worry, you are not alone; there are many others who want to remove age spots but they have no clue how to do that.

Here is an article, which tells you the root cause of age spots and tells you the ingredients that you can use to remove age spots successfully from your skin.

Our skin has a pigment called Melanin, it gives color to the skin. This pigment is very unstable in the presence of the ultra violet rays of the sun, when exposed; it breaks down and accumulates randomly under the skin. It is this random accumulation, which is visible as dark spots.

The ingredients that you should be looking to remove age spots from the skin are very simple. They attack the root cause of the problem and help in achieving a long-term solution.

Phytessence Wakame - This wonder ingredient is extracted from the algae found in the southern coastal area of Japan. It is a wonderful anti oxidant, which helps in maintaining the tone of the skin. It also helps in nourishing the skin cells and keeps them healthier for a longer time.

Nano-Lipobelle H-EQ10 - It is a vitamin like structure that is used to keep skin young and smooth. It works by delivering the nutrients to all the skin cells and making them healthier.

CynergyTK - This is the most important of all ingredients, it is extracted from the wool of sheep and it used to nourish the skin cells. It provides the much needed nutrients and vitamins to the skin cells. It assists in the production of collagen and elastin of the skin and thereby helps skin stay young and flawless.

Along with all these ingredients there are two things that you need to take care of.

One - protect the skin from harmful ultra violet rays. Whenever possible, protect the skin from direct exposure to the sun. The sun rays do the maximum damage.

Two - nourish the skin with the help of ingredients we just discussed, these ingredients are safe and do not have any side effects. Once you start using them you will realize their real advantage.

In a nutshell, if you want to remove age spots you need to follow the above two tips and do nothing else. You will be amazed to see that everything else falls in place automatically. So, sit back relax and let these wonder ingredients remove age spots.

The Lost Gospels [7/9]

The Lost Gospels, presented by Anglican priest Pete Owen Jones, is a fascinating exploration into the huge number of ancient Christian texts that didn't make it into the New Testament. Shocking and challenging, these were works in that presented a Jesus who didn't die, who took revenge on his enemies and who kissed Mary Magdalene on the mouth. This Jesus is unrecognisable from that found in the traditional books of the New Testament. Pete travels through Egypt and the former Roman Empire looking at the emerging evidence of a Christian world that's very different from the one we know. He discovers that in addition to the gospels of Mark, Matthew, Luke and John, there were over 70 gospels, acts, letters and apocalypses circulating in the early Church. Through these lost Gospels, Owen Jones reconstructs the intense intellectual and political struggles for orthodoxy that were fought in the early centuries of Christianity, a battle involving different Christian sects, each convinced that their gospels were true and sacred. The worldwide success of Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code has sparked new interest about the origins of the Christian faith. Pete Owen Jones sets out the context in which heretical texts like the Gospel of Mary emerged. He also strikes a cautionary note: if these lost Gospels had been allowed to flourish, Christianity may well have faced an uncertain future, or perhaps not survived at all. The documentary, although a great feat of scholarship falls short of ...

Sarbanes Oxley & Corporate Governance - New Book

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 is the most major securities regulation to affect companies since the Securities Exchange Act of 1934. Right now there are about 15,000 listed companies, which have a total market value of approximately $37 trillion and are held by tens of millions of shareholders.

The Enron trial ended after four years of federal investigations and 108 days of sworn evidence. The prosecution based its case on evidence provided by executives below the top level, who themselves took plea deals, and on the Watkins letter, which exposed the fraudulent activities of the corporation in August 2001. Judge Lake invoked a common feature in white-collar prosecutions by giving the "ostrich instruction" to the jurors. This allows the jury to find a defendant guilty if they had sufficient notice of problems (like the Watkins letter), but deliberately refused to recognize or act on that information. Former WorldCom CEO, Bernard Ebbers, was convicted by way of a similar ruling.

Willful blindness satisfies the knowledge for a conspiracy conviction and the intent (scienter) element of a fraud conviction. The knowledge element refers to an offending party's knowledge of the wrongness of an act or event prior to committing it. Black's Law Dictionary defines fraud under common law as involving three elements: (1) a material false statement made with intent to deceive (also known as the element of scienter); (2) a victim's reliance on those statements; and (3) damages. If the breach of fiduciary duty has no wrongful intent, it is civil fraud, but if it does, it becomes criminal fraud. This treatise does not cover frivolous cases of civil fraud claims, such as the difficulties of Dave Thomas of Wendy's with an IPO where a footnote disclosure was found inadequate or Ron Howard's dissolution of his film company whereby investors claimed civil fraud because he walked away from the corporation. These cases cross the line of frivolity.

The ostrich instruction is a common feature in white collar crime prosecutions. United States v. Jewell, 532 F.2d 697 (9th Cir. 1976), sets forth the classic instruction in this area: "You may infer knowledge from a combination of suspicion and indifference to the truth. If you find that a person had a strong suspicion that things were not what they seemed or that someone had withheld some important facts, yet shut his eyes for fear that he would learn, you may conclude that he acted knowingly." Judge Posner explained how the ostrich instruction should be understood, and its limitations, in United States v. Giovannetti, 919 F.2d 1223 (7th Cir. 1990):

The most powerful criticism of the ostrich instruction is, precisely, that its tendency is to allow juries to convict upon a finding of negligence for crimes that require intent...The criticism can be deflected by thinking carefully about just what it is that real ostriches do (or at least are popularly supposed to do). They do not just fail to follow through on their suspicions of bad things. They are not merely careless birds. They bury their heads in the sand so that they will not see or hear bad things. They deliberately avoid acquiring unpleasant knowledge. The ostrich instruction is designed for cases in which there is evidence that the defendant, knowing or strongly suspecting that he is involved in shady dealings, takes steps to make sure that he does not acquire full or exact knowledge of the nature and extent of those dealings. A deliberate effort to avoid guilty knowledge is all the guilty knowledge the law requires.

Jurors were quoted after the trial as saying that for a man as knowledgeable as Enron Chairman Ken Lay was, he had to know what was going on at his own company. They found the high level of stock sales unusual, as well, compared to his recommendations at the same time to employees of the company to hold and buy stock.

Why has the last decade seen such an increase in white collar crime? It has been reflected in dozens of cases involving bribery, conflicts of interest, mail and wire fraud, and securities fraud, to name only a few. It is inconceivable that the perpetrators were not aware. It is the purpose of this book to raise the awareness level among educators, practitioners, senior management and their auditors, and researchers of the need for adequate and continued laws and controls on a global basis in order to protect the capital markets and ensure and restore integrity and an ethical standard through the rule of law to world markets.

Summer Will Show (New York Review Books Classics) Overview

Sophia Willoughby, a young Englishwoman from an aristocratic family and a person of strong opinions and even stronger will, has packed her cheating husband off to Paris. He can have his tawdry mistress. She intends to devote herself to the serious business of raising her two children in proper Tory fashion.

Then tragedy strikes: the children die, and Sophia, in despair, finds her way to Paris, arriving just in time for the revolution of 1848. Before long she has formed the unlikeliest of close relations with Minna, her husband’s sometime mistress, whose dramatic recitations, based on her hair-raising childhood in czarist Russia, electrify audiences in drawing rooms and on the street alike. Minna, “magnanimous and unscrupulous, fickle, ardent, and interfering,” leads Sophia on a wild adventure through bohemian and revolutionary Paris, in a story that reaches an unforgettable conclusion amidst the bullets, bloodshed, and hope of the barricades.

Sylvia Townsend Warner was one of the most original and inventive of twentieth-century English novelists. At once an adventure story, a love story, and a novel of ideas, Summer Will Show is a brilliant reimagining of the possibilities of historical fiction.

Advice for Beginning Genealogy

I can tell you what prompted me to research my own genealogy. I needed to "know" who I was, who I came from, and where my families have lived. During my youth I wasn't particularly proud of my parents because they were alcoholics. But in the back of my mind, I just knew that not all of my ancestors would be as disappointing. Looking back, I kind of have to laugh at my first attempts. I began in earnest in about 1980. I had always loved looking at my family's pictures, and I had a great uncle who was a Mormon and he had, some time before 1980, written to my mother for more information about her spouse and siblings. That gave me the first image of what a family tree chart would look like.

Jump ahead to 1994. My nephew Eric was getting married and his future mother-in-law had been doing her own genealogy for many, many years. When Carol H. asked my mom for more information on our family tree, my mother kindly pointed her my way, saying I knew a lot about it. That was an overstatement, but at the time, I knew more than the rest of the family.

My luck would hold when computers became a household item and you could buy genealogical software to store your family files. I was in heaven! I have always used Family Tree Maker, although I am sure that there are many equally as good programs for genealogy. It is now 2006 and I have a good sized family file for both my Yates and Wilkerson lines, and many of their allied families.

Random advice for beginners

o People always ask, "Where do I start"? Even if you have names for your other family members, begin with yourself first.

o If you are seriously going to research your family using a computer, get a genealogy program that you find easy to work with. It needn't cost you an "arm and a leg". Look for the basic program. I would not recommend a bundle of disks (for instance, if they contain the World Family Tree disks) like FTM sells. Those family trees have been contributed by other genealogists (including myself) and the information might not be accurate. That leads me to the next bit of advice....

o Document your sources! If you are going to be handing your family files and pictures down to your descendants, please do them an enormous favor and prove each bit of data you cite. Let me tell a funny story in regard to that request.

Three of my older cousins who lived in Missouri compiled a small 'book' about my grandmother's family tree. One of the surnames listed was Oglethorpe and it was said they had lived in Clay, Overton and Jackson counties in Tennessee. When I took up the reigns to research this line in TN, I posted my surnames on Rootsweb http://www.rootsweb.com for those counties. A very nice man emailed me and told me his best friend was researching in those counties too and that he had databases of many of the families. He gave me his friend's email address and I contacted this other researcher. To make a long story short, the surname turned out to be 'Osgatharp' for my ancestors that had lived in that part of the Tennessee. I was told, and I also researched this on my own, that there were no Olgethorpes living in those counties. Period. So, I reported back to my one cousin Allene this new bit of information. I asked her where they had come up with the name Oglethorpe. She told me, "That is what my mother called them"! We had a little discussion about that, and I finally convinced her that the name was instead Osgatharp. That isn't where it ends though, so I will just insert here that the name is/was also Osgathorpe, and as it turns out, our ancestor Richard Osgathorpe was a Patriot in the Revolutionary War!

I can't really fault my cousin completely for not having the correct name. Most people from her era and age group only had word of mouth and bible records to rely on for documentation.

Label those pictures while the older generation can help you!

o My dad may have failed in his earlier life, but as the oldest child he could identify many of his ancestors just by looking at their pictures. He labeled each one that he could and that was so helpful. Also, you would be surprised at how many older family pictures will surface when you begin making contact with cousins through genealogy. I have a picture of my Great-great Grandfather that I thought I would never see. In my research I have found that since my branch of the family migrated more often, the older pictures of ancestors were still with families in locations where they had the family farm or stayed the longest.

Don't bite the hand that feeds you!

o Now, here is some advice that I have for all the eager beavers who think they are in some 'race' to get the most, first, or best information in the shortest amount of time. DO NOT contact relatives who have already done much of their own genealogical research and demand that they give you all they have on your family. That is not the way to go about it. Many people are willing to share what they have (I am one of them), but some are not, and they feel that "they have spent 30, 40, or 50 years doing this research and you just want it handed over to you"? I recommend that you tell them that you would be happy to share what you have, and that you would appreciate anything they would like to share with you. Believe me, it works much better that way.

New Book Reveals How Nitric Oxide Benefits Health, Including Heart and Circulation

Perry Chinn, D.C., has written "Symphony of Wellness" after years as a chiropractor helping people to acquire wellness in their own lives. At age fifty, he has also experienced high blood pressure, which concerned him since it can prohibit his enjoyment of flying helicopters and giving helicopter instruction.

When Dr. Chinn heard about nitric oxide's benefits, he immediately became intrigued by how it worked and how it might offer relief to many people with health conditions-one benefit is that it can help to lower blood pressure. When Dr. Chinn started using a nitric oxide, also known as L-arginine supplement (L-arginine is the key ingredient), he immediately experienced the benefits of lower blood pressure. Dr. Chinn was so impressed and enthusiastic about nitric oxide's benefits that he became involved in forming a company, Unisal Wellness, to manufacture a nitric oxide supplement named Acctrix (www.Acctrix.com).

As Dr. Chinn explains, using nitric oxide has many benefits, including the potential to save or relieve millions of people suffering from circulation and heart disorders. The use of nitric oxide is based in the 1998 Nobel Prize winning work of Drs. Ignarro, Furchgott, and Murad who first researched and explored its benefits. While the body naturally produces nitric oxide, taking a high quality L-arginine supplement can help enhance one's health, significantly boosting the body's healing capacity, which too often today, is retarded due to stress, poor nutrition, and the toxicity of prescription drugs. As Dr. Chinn states, "Stress depletes our natural levels of nitric oxide in the body-stress interferes with our body's ability to heal." By comparison, nitric oxide enhances the body's immune functions, and an L-arginine supplement helps the body in its cellular production of nitric oxide.

Little has been heard about nitric oxide's benefits until now because, unfortunately, science often goes where the money leads-in this case, nitric oxide was first used for male enhancement drugs. However, Dr. Chinn explains that properly balanced supplements, such as Acctrix, can help people return blood pressure levels to normal. The key is in the balance of nutrients, as Dr. Chinn knows from taking Acctrix himself; in fact, he acted as one of the guinea pigs during the product's testing to see how changing the ingredient portions would affect him and others until the product reached the optimal balance to benefit its recipients. For someone who likes to fly in helicopters and can't risk high blood pressure, the results have been exactly what the doctor ordered.

In addition, while nitric oxide is naturally produced in our bodies, it is difficult for us to increase its levels through eating nutritious foods (although eating foods of low nutritional value can retard our body's production of it). Unfortunately, the most common L-arginine rich foods also tend to be high in fat and cholesterol (foods like red meat and shellfish). A better solution then is to take an L-arginine supplement like Acctrix.

While Dr. Chinn does have a vested interest in promoting his product, he also writes with common sense and a concern for others. As a chiropractor, he has witnessed patients with heart problems fail to seek or find the necessary treatment. He has also watched patients, as well as several of his own relatives, suffer the consequences of poor nutrition, including fast food and soda-I almost wrote "too much" fast food and soda, but Dr. Chinn makes it clear that even one dose of either can have debilitating effects on our health. Besides his common sense advice on nutrition and exercise, he also discusses the importance of deeper breathing to allow oxygen into our bodies, something we seldom do in our high stress environments.

One point Dr. Chinn makes that is of incalculable value is the importance of paying attention to our body symptoms. He mentions how people immediately see symptoms as something to suppress when in actuality, they are signs of deeper problems that need to be addressed. In describing the creation of Acctrix, Dr. Chinn notes his own experience with people's concerns over symptoms:

While preparing for Acctrix's release, we at Unisal Wellness were receiving input from product users with a wide range of questions. "Why is my skin turning red?" Return of circulation. "Why is my nose stuffy?" Functioning immune response. As their bodies experienced a dramatic increase in circulation, they began to return to a more normal way of symptom expression. We are used to suppressing symptoms. If our nose runs, we take a drug to suppress the drainage. If we have a headache, we take another drug to get rid of this message from our body.

"Symphony of Wellness" is a great way for people interested in attaining better health to begin understanding how their bodies function and the basics to improving their health. Dr. Chinn's discussion of nitric oxide, the first time this health factor has come to my attention, alone makes this book worth reading. It can be the start of bringing your health back into tune.

Circumference of Darkness: A Novel Overview

In 1993, a legendary hacker known only as “phr33k” outlined a far-fetched plan for the ultimate terrorist attack, in a members-only online chat room. Eight years later, he awoke on September 11, 2001 to see the World Trade Center in flames and his casual brainstorm materializing into a murderous reality.

Among the injured in the Pentagon strike was 22-year-old Jeannie Reese, former child prodigy and current lead designer in the government’s Total Information Awareness program. As the response is mobilized, she receives a green light to activate her pet project, ARGOS, an above-top-secret, omnipresent domestic surveillance system. She soon uncovers phr33k’s years-old blueprint for September 11th, and Jeannie sets out to track down this dark figure of the Internet underground and bring him to justice for his role.

But the hunt soon leads Jeannie down an alarming trail of revelations: the terrorists are gathering again, they achieved only a fraction of their aims on 9/11, and a massive follow-up attack is coming, designed by the most formidable mind she’s ever encountered, conceived to bring about the end of the United States of America.

Stieg Larsson Millennium Trilogy CD Bundle: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest

Stieg Larsson Millennium Trilogy CD Bundle: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest Review

Stieg Larsson Millennium Trilogy CD Bundle: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest Overview

Stieg Larsson’s Millennium Trilogy is now available in a complete audio set.

All across America, people are talking about Stieg Larsson’s best-selling novels, set in Sweden and featuring Lisbeth Salander—“one of the most original and memorable heroines to surface in a recent thriller” (The New York Times). The trilogy is an international sensation that will grab you and keep you “reading with eyes wide open” (San FranciscoChronicle). “[It] is intricately plotted, lavishly detailed but written with a breakneck pace and verve” (The Independent, U.K.), but “be warned: the trilogy is seriously addictive.” (The Guardian, U.K.).

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
Harriet Vanger, a scion of one of Sweden’s wealthiest families disappeared without a trace more than forty years ago. All these years later, her aged uncle continues to try to discover what happened to her. He hires Mikael Blomkvist, a journalist recently sidelined by a libel conviction, to investigate. Blomkvist is aided by the pierced and tattooed computer prodigy Lisbeth Salander. Together they tap into a vein of unfathomable iniquity and astonishing corruption on their way to discovering the truth of Harriet Vanger’s fate.

The Girl Who Played with Fire
Mikael Blomkvist, now the crusading publisher of the magazine Millennium, has decided to run a story that will expose an extensive sex trafficking operation. On the eve of its publication, the two reporters responsible for the article are murdered, and the fingerprints found on the murder weapon belong to his friend Lisbeth Salander. Blomkvist, convinced of Salander’s innocence, plunges into an investigation of the murders. Meanwhile, Salander herself is drawn into a murderous game of cat and mouse, which forces her to face her dark past.

The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest
Lisbeth Salander lies in critical condition, a bullet wound to her head, in the intensive care unit of a Swedish city hospital. She’s fighting for her life in more ways than one: if and when she recovers, she’ll be taken back to Stockholm to stand trial for three murders. With the help of Mikael Blomkvist, she will not only have to prove her innocence, but also identify and denounce those in authority who have allowed the vulnerable, like herself, to suffer abuse and violence. On her own, she will plot revenge—against the man who tried to kill her, and against the corrupt government institutions that very nearly destroyed her life.

The 21st Birthday: A Bit of Lore

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Having a birthday is considered a special occasion in many different countries, but the 21st birthday is special in many ways. For one reason or another, turning 21 has always been a rite of passage and a great cause of celebration world wide. Of course, in the United States, the 21st birthday marks the final milestone to completing the process of becoming an adult as the doors to taverns, pubs, nightclubs, and bars become open and waiting. Suddenly, that which was secretive and unknown, becomes ordinary and, well, to be honest, underwhelming. There are a lot of things I would rather witness than an unsuspecting birthday reveler the morning after an American 21st birthday bar crawl, but that's entirely another story for another time.

Did you know that other countries put as much effort into the 21st birthday also? For example, the drinking age isn't twenty-one in Holland, yet they still celebrate the birthday in a big way. The 21st birthday is the final installment of "crown" years. To indicate to others that an individual is celebrating one of their crown years, the birthday person wears a crown on their head throughout the day. In addition, or perhaps to make up for having to wear the crown all day, that person then gets what is considered to be an especially large gift. In South Africa, key is made from and presented to the birthday celebrator by his/her parents as a sign that the young adult is ready to unlock the door to their future. This rite of passage may seem very simplistic, but in practice it is considered to be a very important ritual in that it denotes the acceptance by the parents of the birthday celebrator no longer being a child, but instead is now an adult.

As noted, cross-culturally, the 21st birthday is a rite of passage into adulthood. In societies around the globe, the date acts as a legal convention that brings about a change in the way in which communities see and interact with the individual who is celebrating their 21st birthday.

New Book Provides Help For Those With Mental Illness by Raising Community Awareness

Image : http://www.flickr.com

May is Mental Health month, and what better way to observe it than to get people in your community involved by providing them with a better understanding of it.

"Mental Illness and Your Town" is the perfect solution to communicating the message of how to provide mental health services and how communities can work together to improve the situation for everyone involved. It is an idea book-37 ideas for helping communities understand people with mental disorders and provide better services for them. Some of the ideas may seem like common sense, but author Larry Hayes, long time advocate for those with mental health issues, points out the lack of coordination, understanding, and responsiveness within communities for those who suffer from such disorders. This book is for the family members, those who are mentally ill, the community, social workers, lawyers, police, doctors, nurses and anyone who may come in contact with or help someone who has a mental disorder. That means you! It means everyone. As Hayes explains, one in ten people during their lifetimes will suffer from some form of cognitive impairment. If it's not you, it will be a loved one. We can all benefit by learning as much about mental health as possible and being advocates for those who suffer.

Integral to educating people about mental illness is dispelling myths. Hayes points out that mothers do not cause mental problems in their children, although their depression may affect a child's development of it. However, it is just as likely a mother can prevent mental problems in her child. Hayes states, "Nurture mental wellness in a new mother and she then can nurture it in the child. Mom isn't the culprit. She can be a child's best therapist." Another myth to dispel is that the mentally ill cannot function in society. In fact, many can hold down jobs and those who work at least part-time feel better about themselves, appreciating the chance to feel self-reliant. If holding down a job is too difficult or frightening for someone with a disorder, the person can volunteer his services, thus still achieving self-esteem without as much pressure.

I cannot do justice in this space to all the ideas presented by Hayes-some may work for all communities, some for just certain communities, but they are a rich number of solutions to the absent or insufficient help for those with mental illness that many communities provide. Hayes describes the shortcomings of many current suicide prevention hotlines and how a community can create its own successfully. He provides advice for parents on estate planning so their adult child will be provided for after their death. Hayes advocates and explains how to recruit those with the power to recruit others, from journalists to lawyers, politicians, to judges, and the police. He provides details on creating conferences for the police, doctors and nurses about how to interact with those who suffer from mental illness. Awareness is key to understanding such disorders; Hayes provides numerous means to raise awareness from creating brochures and mental health directories to larger projects like setting up a Depression Center or a clubhouse for people who suffer to go to be themselves and gain self-esteem.

Author Larry Hayes knows what he speaks about. He is honest from the first page, speaking without shame about his own bouts with depression and his son's mental illness. Hayes was once hospitalized for six weeks for depression and he has undergone twelve shock treatments. His son has been suicidal, but with love, understanding and help from his family and community, he has functioned in society. Hayes is himself an award-winning columnist who wrote editorials in Fort Wayne's Journal Gazette for over a quarter century to provide education to people about the mentally ill. He has been involved in numerous groups, including the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). He was fundamental in forming the Carriage House, a highly acclaimed rehabilitation center, in creating the Suicide Prevention Council, and in starting a countywide Mental Health Coordinating Council. He also successfully lobbied Indiana University Purdue University, Fort Wayne to create the Institute for Behavior Studies.

The book concludes with a final chapter that offers guides to inventing a new system to provide treatment and resources for the mentally ill. An annotated list of resources, both books and websites, concludes the book.

Readers who know nothing about mental health issues and services will come away feeling not only more informed, but thoughtful about the people they have known with with various disorders, and they will want to learn more about this often misunderstood illness that affects everyone directly or indirectly. Those already involved in helping those with mental impairments will find fresh, well-thought out ideas to further their efforts, and finally, those who suffer will find reassurance that people do care and want to understand, and that the lines of communication have been opened wider because this book.

New Book Provides Women With Formula For Unstoppable Success

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Britt Santowski is the voice of the new Unstoppable Woman. Bridging the gap between women of the past and present, from women who were victims to women who are successful and empowered, Santowski uses her personal story and that of many other successful women, along with practical examples, inspirational stories, and a good dose of shrewd common sense to enlighten women about the requirements for success. "The Three Strategies of the Unstoppable Woman" is that book women have long awaited-a surefire guide to finding the required balance in life that leads both to goal-achievement and happiness.

Having experienced violence and abuse, and having seen it in the lives of the women around her, Santowski makes a strong point early in the book that while violence exists in our world, women cannot accept the role of "victim." Santowski has no problem taking on what does not work for women. While education is fine, she points out the educational system's limits, and she provides practical ways for women to determine what is the right goal, field of study, or career for them by exploring their passions and natural inclinations rather than doing what other people or society at large expects is best for them.

At the heart of "The Three Strategies of the Unstoppable Woman" is the invaluable point that women need to support one another. Santowski encourages women, once they know where they want to go in life, to collaborate with each other rather than simply envy one another. She teaches women to transform their envy into the fuel to ignite their dreams. "Envy is not a bad-news indicator that reflects something awful about you. Rather, it is a great-news indicator, telling you that you too can achieve this particular aspiration. All you have to do is to step out of your comfort zone and start moving toward it."

One of my favorite sections of "The Three Strategies of the Unstoppable Woman" was the discussion of forming mastermind groups with like-minded women. While I have heard of mastermind groups before, I appreciated Santowski's simple guidelines for creating such circles, based on her own experiences participating and forming mastermind groups. As a male reader, I felt this information and so much more in the book was directly relevant to my own desires and goals, so I did not let the book's title stop me from absorbing all the priceless information included.

Another favorite piece of advice I found was Santowski's statement that we need to change "if" to "when" in terms of what we desire. We need to assume something we want will happen and then imagine and plan for it. I especially appreciated her example in this case because she helped one of her male clients believe he would receive custody of his child, a situation that did become a "when" not an "if" and it illustrates that Santowski is understanding of men, rather than seeing them as the enemy. She makes a point of saying that she did truly believe in this particular situation that the child would be better off with the father. There is no man-bashing (or woman-bashing) in this book, but rather a sense that people can work together, regardless of sex or background, to make what they want into reality.

Throughout the book, Santowski provides "Call to Action" sections to challenge the reader toward becoming unstoppable. The end of the book is filled with several excellent appendices, not just the usual list of references, but also inspirational quotes from such women as Eleanor Roosevelt and Helen Keller. My favorite appendix is the "Famous Failures" section that illustrates how people (men included) like Walt Disney, Betty Grable, Joan of Arc, and Benjamin Franklin, might have experienced perceived failure but still succeeded. As Santowski points out, failure only really happens when you give up. Everything else is merely a setback.

So, what are the Three Strategies of the Unstoppable Woman? I'm not giving anything away by stating that they are Accountability, Collaboration, and Initiative. It's learning how to apply those strategies that makes this book worth reading. Let Britt Santowski teach you, male or female, how to become unstoppable.

How to Treat and Prevent Nasal Impetigo

Impetigo is a common bacterial skin infection of the upper layers of the skin. Caused by Staphylococcus aureus (the most common staph infection) and Streptococcus pyogenes (the same bacteria that causes strep throat), it is a highly contagious disease, but is most common among children from 2-6 years of age. People who play close contact sports such as football and rugby are also susceptible, regardless of age.

Nasal impetigo refers to acquiring impetigo through the nasal passage. A lot of times people will get the Staphylococcus bacteria inside their nose without knowing because it does not cause an infection inside the nose. Direct contact with infected nasal fluid can in turn infect other body parts. Other common factors that can cause nasal impetigo include a warm and humid environment, poor hygiene, overcrowding, and traumatized skin such as cuts and insect bites.

There are two types of impetigo: Non-bullous and bullous. Non-bullous impetigo is more common, causing about 70% of all impetigo infections. It occurs mainly on the face or limbs and appears to have a thick "honey-colored" crust. Bullous impetigo occurs mainly with newborns and young children, and forms blisters primarily on the face, hands, and buttocks. Both types of impetigo, fortunately, heal without scarring.

Symptoms of nasal impetigo include one or more pimple-like lesions surrounded by reddened skin. Be careful, though, because is often confused with several other skin conditions, so it is good to get certain tests to make the diagnosis. The most common diagnostic tests performed are getting a gram stain or bacterial culture by swabbing the base of a lesion with a cotton swab.

Treatment of non-bullous impetigo is done with a topical antibiotic that is usually prescribed, and, is applied to the lesion four times a day until it is gone for three days. Both forms of impetigo are treated with oral antibiotics, but, another way to treat it is to wash your hands with soap and water and let the impetigo dry in the air. Penicillin and amoxicillin are not good antibiotics to use because of increasing resistance rates. It is also very important to remove the crusts before applying ointment, because the bacteria that cause the disease live underneath them.

Prevention of impetigo includes frequently washing areas of skin of minor trauma with soap and water and simply staying away from overcrowded areas and living conditions. People with reoccurring impetigo should have their nose cultured to find out if they are carriers of nasal impetigo and Staphylococcus aureus.

Book Reviews - New Moon

Image : http://www.flickr.com

My first take on the Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer was that it was definitely a series for young readers. But, after reading the first book in the series, Twilight, I just had to continue on and go for the next one. Though originally targeted for young readers, mostly due to the content, I can tell you that these books will most likely appeal to a primarily female audience because it is somewhat of a love story-though a somewhat twisted one-but that a surprisingly high number of males that pick these books up may also find themselves enthralled. Edward and the other male characters in these books are quite engaging and definitely prone to testosterone rushes.

New Moon, the movie, has been touted as not as good as Twilight, but it may be because a new mythical creature is introduced and the action scenes are not as dramatic. The difference in the book is that you are able to gain a much better understanding of the complex emotions, feelings and thoughts that each of the characters are experiencing. The movie leaves you trying to guess the why of the actions of the main characters whereas the book explains all of this in great detail.

So, New Moon starts where Twilight leaves off. Bella comes to the realization that as she is turning 18, Edward will never age and she becomes almost completely obsessed with this. She cannot bear to think that she will grow old and wrinkled and that Edward will not; not because she doesn't want to grow old, but because her greatest fear is that he will leave her for someone else as her hair grays, wrinkles appear and her flesh takes on the crepe-like appearance that only the aged have. Next to Edward's remarkable beauty, she will look like a monster-at least that is how Bella sees it.

I won't give away the middle of the book, but suffice to say that there is no way the movie can even begin to describe the emotional death that Bella suffers. Stephenie Meyer has untold skill at enabling the reader to be able to feel everything that her characters are feeling. Though men may have a much harder time relating to these feelings, that is not to say that men don't feel them or that this book will not give men a much better understanding of how easy it is to hurt deeply, the one person that you love, regardless of the reasoning behind the actions. Stephenie Meyer puts into words some of the most intense feelings possible to feel.

The end of New Moon definitely leaves you wanting more, which is also why some may feel somewhat dissatisfied with the ending of the movie, but also makes you want to rush out and pick up the next volume in the series, Eclipse.

I think that it is safe to say that Stephenie Meyer has hit a somewhat expected home run with the younger, female audience, while surprisingly has drawn in the middle-aged housewives and even older women and men of all ages (though they are liable to deny it).

Can Your Business Afford Not To Train Your Staff?

Imagine if you only learned after making all your mistakes. It is doubtful that your customers would accept nor appreciate the inconsistent work, and chances are they would probably not return. Professionals know that customer retention is key in satisfying and growing your business.

Training staff has consistently been shown to pay-off for businesses and customers alike and rewards come to those who stay current in the industry through training. When your customers talk to their friends, family, and co-workers, what do you want them to say about your business? About your products? About your staff?

Cheesecake Factory Training excerpt:

"The firm spends an average of $2,000 on training per hourly worker each year. Everyone within the organization benefits from training and development initiatives. Servers get two weeks of on-the-job training. Candidates vying for a managerial position receive 12-week development courses. Even dishwashers are included in training initiatives. One way the company measures its return on investment is by examining turnover rates, which are about 15 percent below the industry average of 106 percent. Workforce development programs also contribute to high consumer satisfaction rates, loyalty and repeat visits.

Much of the company's training efforts, as one might expect, center on its serving staff. "Servers are on the front line. They are our public face," Wensing says. Servers are a key component in the "Cheesecake Factory experience"-the hassle-free, friendly and fun dining that Oscar and Evelyn Overton envisioned. And since servers make up 40 percent of the total workforce, the company takes their training seriously."

What is amazing about this excerpt is indicative of the value that high-end companies place on training. When was the last time you heard about dishwashers getting training? How about wait staff having two solid weeks of training? As for their management training, it is ongoing and extensive.

What does this translate into? A great customer experience. Lower turnover. Happier employees. Most importantly, is higher revenue. Hard to argue with a successful business model.

You need to be asking, "How Can Employee Training Impact My Business?"

No matter what your role is in the business, mortgage or real estate industry, your business can benefit from proper training. Advanced and "continuous" training provides professional distinction in any highly competitive industry. The many benefits of training include:

Higher quality of work

Reduced amount of re-work

Improved cycle time and processing turn-times

Increased profit

Increased volume

Improved relations with other industry professionals

Improved image with in your industry, or the real estate and mortgage industry.

All of these benefits not only increase customer satisfaction, but improve employee relations as well. Working for a company that values and invests in skills, knowledge, and growth helps employees realize their value and increases their confidence on the job. It also energies staff and greatly reduces employee turn-over.

Breast Lift With the Help of Dermal Fillers

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Botox, otherwise known as Botulinum toxin, is a medication which creates a temporary paralysis of the muscles in which it is injected. This substance seems like it would be an unlikely cure for any ills, but it has been used in many helpful ways. Botox is probably the most well known for helping to ease wrinkles in aging skin, but it has an array of other applications, as well.

Excessive sweating in the armpit region, adult acne, cerebral palsy, TMJ disorders, spastic disorders and wound healing are just a few of the ailments treated with Botox. Uplifting breasts without surgery is yet another use recently discovered for this wonder drug.

Breasts often sag as a woman ages due to both the downward pull of gravity and the aftermath of pregnancy and lactation. The outer skin which has become stretched out due to hormonal changes, milk production or aging often needs a bit of tightening up.

Besides the Botox breast lift, the other options for uplifting the sagging bustline are either a surgical lift or an underwire bra. The surgical option entails a plastic surgeon cutting away excess skin and closing the area with stitches in order to produce a tighter and perkier positioning. If the breast has lost volume, an implant filled with saline or silicone may be inserted in order to augment the size and fullness of the chest area.

A Botox Lift involves three injections of the medication into each side in the chest area into the pectoralis minor muscle. The pectoralis minor is the muscle which pulls the breast downward. When that is relaxed due to the injections, the opposing rhomboid muscles will compensate by pulling upward.

This non-invasive lift is only temporary and will only last approximately ten to twelve weeks. If this method is chosen for a more youthful and uplifted bustline, it must be repeated in order to maintain the effect. At times this method may be just a quick fix for a special occasion such as a wedding or when a revealing gown must be worn.

There are mixed reviews on the appropriateness of this method, however. Proponents tout the non-invasive; no downtime aspects of it but the nay-sayers are not convinced. There is some worry that there would be paralysis in the chest muscle area that could hamper physical activity and strength. There was also some concern that the medication could drift to other regions and cause paralysis to unplanned areas.

If one was interested in having their breasts lifted, it would be wise to visit a reputable plastic surgeon to discuss the pros and cons of each option.

The Christmas Sweater Overview

If You Could Change Your Life by Reversing Your Biggest Regrets, Sorrows and Mistakes...Would You?

#1 New York Times bestselling author and renowned radio and television host Glenn Beck delivers an instant holiday classic about boyhood memories, wrenching life lessons, and the true meaning of the gifts we give to one another in love.

We weren't wealthy, we weren't poor -- we just were. We never wanted for anything, except maybe more time together....

When Eddie was twelve years old, all he wanted for Christmas was a bike. Although his life had gotten harder -- and money tighter -- since his father died and the family bakery closed...Eddie dreamed that somehow his mother would find a way to have his dream bike gleaming beside their modest Christmas tree that magical morning.

What he got from her instead was a sweater. "A stupid, handmade, ugly sweater" that young Eddie left in a crumpled ball in the corner of his room.

Scarred deeply by the realization that kids don't always get what they want, and too young to understand that he already owned life's most valuable treasures, that Christmas morning was the beginning of Eddie's dark and painful journey on the road to manhood. It will take wrestling with himself, his faith, and his family -- and the guidance of a mysterious neighbor named Russell -- to help Eddie find his path through the storm clouds of life and finally see the real significance of that simple gift his mother had crafted by hand with love in her heart.

Based on a deeply personal true story, The Christmas Sweater is a warm and poignant tale of family, faith and forgiveness that offers us a glimpse of our own lives -- while also making us question if we really know what's most important in them.

Creating a Plot For a New Book

Image : http://www.flickr.com

If you want to write a book, you have to have a plot. It's got to be a plot that is unique and interesting, too. Otherwise, it won't hold anyone's attention.

One way to come up with a unique book plot is to draw from your own experiences. For example, if you have an unusual medical condition, you could write about growing up with such a condition. Also, if you had something odd happen to you in life, such as finding a lost love, seeing a ghost or being a victim of a robbery, those can make interesting plot points.

If you're more interested in making up a story from scratch, though, there are ways to come up with plots for those, too. One way is to sit down with a sheet of paper and a pen or in front of your computer. Then, just start writing the first words that come to mind. You might wind up with a strange list, like blue, apple, dog, sky, but it'll give you some starting points.

Another way is to work with characters first. Decide on character names and where those characters came from. For example, you might decide that your character should be named David and that he grew up in Hawaii. Once you have characters and back stories, the book may more or less write itself.

Remember that the plot is the glue that holds the story together. So, once you have a basic plot, you'll need to flesh it out and make it more well-rounded. That process could take a while, but it'll be worth it.

Radicals For Capitalism - A History of Libertarianism

A fascinating look at the history of the uniquely American political philosophy of Libertarianism, Radicals for Capitalism is a richly rewarding book on the beginnings of the Libertarian movement and some of its founding members and supporters. Brian Doherty does an excellent job in writing a compelling history of the Libertarian movement.

For anyone with an interest in small government politics this book is not only informative but entertaining. While most people captivated by the Libertarian movement have only a cursory knowledge of its beginnings, reading this book will flesh out your knowledge in an engaging and informative way. Ayn Rand? Everyone has heard of her, but how about Isabel Paterson and Rose Wilder Lane? All three women can be said to have lain the roots for the libertarian movement of today.

All three published important works in 1943, pre-dating Hayeks Road to Serfdom and other seminal Libertarian works. Rands The Fountainhead, Lanes The Discovery of Freedom and Patersons The God of the Machine were all put out in 1943 birthing many important ideas of the Libertarian movement. Explaining Americas exceptionalism, defending the greatness of the founding documents and espousing on the importance of individual liberties these women are of great importance to anyone interested liberty and freedom. While Paterson and Lanes books are difficult to find, they can be located with a little digging, Laissez- Faire books would be a good place to start.

Ayn Rands books are available just about everywhere. Covering the well known like F.A. Hayek and the less known but influential (within the movement) like Murray Rothbrand this book has all the bases covered. The chapter "Goldwater, The Objectivist Crack-up, and Hippies of the Right" had some laugh out loud moments. Covering the Austrian School of Economics and the Chicago School this book explains sometimes mundane and complex subjects in an interesting and understandable manner. Milton Freidman is well covered and as one of the most popular Libertarians besides Ayn Rand.

Janet Evanovich and Michael Connelly: Author One-to-One
In this Amazon exclusive, we brought together blockbuster authors Janet Evanovich and Michael Connelly and asked them to interview each other. Find out what two of the top authors of their genres have to say about their characters, writing process, and more. Michael Connelly is the bestselling author of the Harry Bosch series of novels as well as The Poet, Blood Work, Void Moon, Chasing the Dime, and the #1 New York Times bestseller The Lincoln Lawyer. He is a former newspaper reporter who has won numerous awards for his journalism and his novels. Read on to see Michael Connelly's questions for Janet Evanovich, or turn the tables to see what Evanovich asked Connelly.

Michael ConnellyConnelly: Let's get the business out of the way. What's Finger Lickin' Fifteen, the new Stephanie Plum novel, all about and what brought you to the story?

Evanovich: I wanted to do a book that featured Stephanie's wheelman, Lula. Lula is one of my favorite characters because she's pulled herself up from hard times and now is just more of everything. Fifteen opens with Lula witnessing a crime, and it all gets complicated after that. We're talking about barbecue gone bad, cross-dressing firemen, dancing hot dogs, etc.

Connelly: You strike me as an author who is involved in every aspect of the publishing of her work. But the output--at least two solid novels a year--suggests otherwise, that you delegate all over the place so that you can focus on writing high-quality stuff. So which is it? (And if your answer is that you do indeed delegate, how the heck do you learn to do that?)

Evanovich: You reach a point in your career where the business side threatens to eclipse writing time and you either delegate or power back. I delegate everything but the writing. My daughter and her staff manage the website, the fan mail, the book tour, the author publicity and marketing. My son is my agent and finance officer and chief problem solver. When no one else can solve the problem it gets dumped on my son's desk! I oversee all aspects, but I've had to learn not to micro-manage.

Connelly: We have an author friend in common-- Robert Crais--who has steadfastly refused to sell or option his series character Elvis Cole to Hollywood. On the other hand, I've flogged Harry Bosch up and down the studio strip. (Interestingly enough, to the same effect--no movies made!) Where do you stand with Stephanie and will we ever see her on the big or small screen?

Evanovich: Jeez Louise, I wish I knew the answer to this one. TriStar owns the Plum franchise with Wendy Finerman attached as producer, and Wendy has been trying to get this sucker off the ground for fifteen years. Probably somewhere in the vicinity of three million people read each of my Plum books, but for whatever reason, TriStar has yet to greenlight the project.

Connelly: Speaking of that L.A. business, do you remember when we first met? Since you conveniently put numbers in your titles, it is easy for me to remember that it was fourteen years ago in L.A. I bet you don't remember the name of the restaurant, which sadly is no longer there. But, luckily, we're still here and my memory of that lunch is important to me because at the time we had probably sold a hundred books between us (not counting romance novels).

Evanovich: What I remember is that what I consider to be my graduating class (you, Crais, and Jan Burke) would get together at all the mystery conferences, and you would be our fearless leader!

Connelly: Did you know that in my most recent novel a very bad man plans to use a Janet Evanovich novel to get close to an unsuspecting, potential victim? It's scary stuff--the plan, not the Evanovich novel. Have you reached a stage where your work is part of the terrain and gets these sorts of little nods here and there?

Evanovich: Every now and then my name or one of my character names pops up and it's usually in the work of a friend. I think it's fun and I always reciprocate...so live in fear.

Only Real Martial Arts Stop Rapists

One of my favorite stories to tell is about the time my brother-in-law's girlfriend got her black belt in karate...

She had her big flashy test...kicked the bag...sparred other girls (and a couple of guys that looked like girls!) with the foam booties and gloves on...did her kata with the appropriate "snap" in her movements...very nice.

Now, I'm not a complete jerk, so I let her have her moment. Congratulated her, hobnobbed with the karate "master", and ate a piece of the sheet cake with little icing karate dudes on it....

That was until a couple of months later at a family graduation party when she began to tell all the girls how the type of "karate" she studies is great for fitness (ok), fun (ok), and self defense (BZZZZZ!).

I had stood what I could, but I couldn't stands it no more...

I walked right up into the middle of the gaggling girls, singled her out and flat out asked her, "Tell me the truth...If a 225 pound man attacked and tried to rape and kill you, can you 100%, honestly say that you would know what to do? Could you save your own life?"

There was a deathly quiet pause as every single girl in the room visualized that horrible situation in their own minds. Then came the same answer I've heard from every single women martial artist I've ever met in my life who doesn't train with us...

"Ummm...I guess not."

Here in the United States there seems to be a government agency looking into just about every consumer industry in an effort to protect people from scammers, hucksters, and other assorted con men or corporate swindle.

Unfortunately, for women who are looking for a martial arts style that will provide them with a way to defend themselves, there is no government agency licensing or even looking into instructors or the proven effectiveness of the claims.

Therefore there is an over abundance of inexperienced, untrained, liars who claim they are teaching self-defense. These frauds will often teach a style that sounds and perhaps even looks good on the mat, but lacks any value in real combat.

Moreover, dealing with criminal rapist scum is no time for a woman to find out that her "training" was really just cardio kickboxing in disguise... So share the following information with a woman you care for.
Examining the profiles of rapists gives incite into a dangerous enemy.

The Power-assertive rapist considers himself manly and is the one most likely to commit date rapes. This type makes up 44% of rapists and will try to con a victim and gain her trust, but will have no problem using whatever level of physical force he needs to take control.

The Anger-retaliatory rapist hates women and will look to brutalize and punish them. He looks for targets of opportunity and will most likely beat you unconscious then commit rape. This animal makes up 33% of rapists and is easily enraged.

Power-reassurance rapists account for 21% of rapes and often spies on or stalks his victims since he lacks the confidence to have a normal relationship with women. In his twisted fantasy, he sees himself and the victim as lovers, and will force her to wear lingerie and kiss her while seeing the attack as lovemaking. However, using violence is not out of the question if it comes down to making a woman give in to his demands.

The Anger-excitation is the worst of the lot. A sexual sadist, this sick bastard only makes up 5% of all rapists. He has his attacks preplanned and victims can be women he knows or just spots haphazardly on the street. He derives sexual pleasure from inflicting pain and will tie up, gag and torture women for days on end. So vile is this creature that he will even film or photograph his victims so he can relive the attacks. He is the hardest to catch of the group because he usually kills his victims when he's through.

During an attack your mind will be racing and you won't be thinking clearing about what kind of rapist you are dealing with and what approach to take, but what all experts agree on is that a "properly trained" woman who fights back early DOUBLES their chance of escape...AGAINST ANY SIZE OR STRENGTH ATTACKER.

The Department of Justice reported that 93,934 women were forcibly raped in 2005 (They're still calculating '06)...These numbers are completely unacceptable as women can and should know how to defend themselves.

In Abraham Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, safety is listed right after breathing and eating. Personal protection is too important to be left to the police alone, or to depend on others for help.

Teaching and learning a martial art is ok as it has plenty of redeeming physical, cultural, social, & mental benefits. However, what people (especially women) need to understand, is that 99% of martial arts are NOT legitimate methods of self-defense.
