Foreign Influence: A Thriller (Scot Harvath)

Foreign Influence: A Thriller (Scot Harvath) Review

This fast paced thriller is most believable and looking at the newspapter headlines, presents a frightening scenario.

Counter terrorism operative, Scot Horvath lost his regular position when the new President came into office. Now Scot works for a new secret agency that is buried deep within the Department of Defense and isn't burdened with answering to self-serving politicians.

Scot is asked to go after a man who had helped him in the past. The man is known as The Troll and is accused of being the mastermind behind the bombing of a bus filled with college students in Rome.

Elsewhere, a cab runs down Alison Taylor in Chicago. Alison had gone out drinking with friends after work. The cab driver left the scene and Alison was brought to the hosptial with a severe brain injury. When Alison's family doesn't get any results from the police investigation, they hire a former Marine, John Vaughan, to see if he can find the cab driver.

With the action moving back and forth between the two situations, we learn that Scot is under the belief that The Troll was set up. He wants to catch the terrorist and punish them. With The Troll's help, they prove who was the real mastermind and then learn that there is a terrorist organization planning two more strikes in Europe after which they will bring their murderous ways to the United States.

Back in Chicago, Vaughan teams up with Paul Davidson, who is in the Public Vehicles division. They force the mechanic who repaired the cab driver's car, to tell them who the driver is. Then they go to the cab driver's home where they miss the driver but do find bomb making material. They realize they are dealing with an undercover terrorist scheme and wonder what they can do to stop it.

The two cases come together with excellent action and suspense. Scot Horvath continues to be an enjoyable hero. He stops at nothing to get his man and is brave, patriotic and uses whatever means necessary to get answers and stop the terrorists.

Foreign Influence: A Thriller (Scot Harvath) Overview

#1 New York Times Bestselling Author

Navy SEAL turned covert operative Scot Harvath is called to action once again in Brad Thor’s hottest political thriller yet.

Buried within the black ops budgets of the Department of Defense, a new spy agency has been created.  Unfettered by the oversight of self-serving politicians, it reports only to a secret panel of military insiders.  Its job is to target America’s enemies - both foreign and domestic - under a charter of three simple words: Find, Fix, and Finish.

Recruited as a field operative, Scot Harvath has just returned from his first assignment abroad when a bombing in Rome kills a group of American college students. The evidence points to a dangerous colleague from Harvath’s past and a plan for further attacks on an unimaginable scale.

Harvath is tasked with leveraging his relationship to lure the man out of hiding and kill him on the spot.  But what if it is the wrong man?

Simultaneously, a young woman is struck by a taxi in a hit-and-run in Chicago.  With only two intoxicated witnesses and over five thousand cabs in the city, the Chicago Police have given up on their investigation.  But when the family’s attorney digs deeper, he will uncover a shocking connection to the bombing in Rome and the perpetrators’ plans for America.

As the story rockets to its conclusion, the plots intersect in a race to prevent one of the most audacious and unthinkable acts of war in the history of mankind.

Three Thriller Books Now on Audio That Will Have You on the Edge of Your Seats

The Overton Window by Glen Back and read by James Daniels, will give you 8 hours of enthralling listening. Everything points to this being a ripper of a book. A Fun entertaining intelligent author with a wry sense of humor who hopes his little book " costs you as much sleep listening to it, as it cost him, creating it " Love it!

This is nothing less than Americas future at stake in a massive government led conspiracy that will change American lives forever. A ripping thriller yarn that gives us deeper things to think about, for example the way mass media is used to control our lives and manipulate out understandings. One listener is so enthusiastic, he says he is sending everyone he knows a copy of the book! You will enjoy this one, and in case you still have doubts, the author Glen Back has written five back to back New York Times best sellers. Hard to beat that as a track record.

The Passage is by author Justin Cronin, and read by Scott Brick. A full 36 thirty six hours of listening to follow this epic journey. A contemporary life odyssey propelled initially by a military experiment gone wrong, that divides the people of a devastated land into two primal groups, the hunters and the hunted.

This is a powerful novel that receives high praise from one of the foremost story tellers of our time, Stephen King no less, and I quote just a little from the master " read fifteen pages and you will be captivated: read thirty and you will be taken prisoner... read this book and the ordinary world disappears "

Nothing more needs to be said after words like that, except I should add, its also beautifully read by Scott Brick. A real winner of a audio book. You wont be disappointed.

The Lion
Author, Nelson DeMille and reader Scott Brick. Fifteen hours of great entertainment, Hang onto your seats for this one. The Lion is a contemporary thriller, set in New York, the cops this time being members of a special anti - terrorist unit, plus there's FBI agents in mix, and of course a deadly assassin recently returned to America to continue his murderous agenda. Now honestly, what more could you want?

This is the fifth is a series that follows the exploits of the wise cracking alpha male hero of the stories, John Cory. The books are solid and as a result, they have developed a loyal fan base who eagerly await the next enthralling adventures of John Cory. Fans who write reviews, give this latest book by Nelson DeMille a solid thumbs up and it's well read by Scott Brick, the inspired reader of The Passage. A big tick for this book an audio, for those who enjoy this genre.

Stieg Larsson, The Thriller Books Millennium Series and His Dangerous Life

Stieg Larsson is one of those authors whose life story is as interesting a journey as that of the characters he created for his novels. Even more so perhaps, because it is real life, not fiction.

Larson's first career was in the largely harmless and safe profession of graphic designer and photographer. But the young Larsson had bigger things on his mind. As a science fiction fan from a young age, Larsson loved books and writing and as he matured, he slowly transformed himself into a journalist. More importantly, he transformed himself into a committed crusader against right wing extremist groups in Sweden and in Europe.

He was inspired in this regard by the life on his grandfather Sverin Bostrom, a well known anti fascist in his day, who was imprisoned by the Nazis during the second world war for his Anti Nazi beliefs.

Larsson became an expert on right wing extremism, giving lectures for Scotland Yard on the subject, and eventually became the editor of an influential anti extremist magazine, Expo.

Stieg's expertise did not come without risk. For the last 15 years of his life, with his public profile growing, Larsson and his life long partner, Eva Gabrielson, an anti Vietnam War demonstrator in her youth, lived under constant threat to their lives from underground extremist groups. The couple avoided being seen in public, lived in a shuttered house, and kept details about their lives as secret as possible. Knowing a good deal about how right wing extremist groups worked, Larsson actually wrote a book for the Swedish Union of Journalists, on how journalists should protect themselves from threats.

It was in fact the isolation brought about by the threats, that led Stieg to write his novels, alone at home at night, as a form of relaxation. The three novels together form what is now known as "The Millennium Series."

Larsson died suddenly of a heart attack in 2004 and given who he was, many questioned if there was more to his death than the public were permitted to know. Foul play has been repeatedly denied, but as we all know, many things can be denied.

The three novels "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo", "The Girl Who Played With Fire" and "The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets Nest" were published posthumously. Regarded as innovative and unique in their genre when they first appeared, in the intervening short years between then and now, the books quickly became international best sellers and have sold to date, more than 27 million copies. The novels are now popular books on audio, all three being read by English actor Simon Vance.

An unfortunate epilogue to Steigs story is that he failed to make a will, the end result being that his life long partner and confidant Eva Gabrielson (they were not married) has received none of the wealth his books have earned following his untimely death, the estate being awarded by the Swedish Courts to Larsson's closest relatives, his father and brother. Bitter court battles have ensued.

Reader's have you drawn up your will?

Glenn Beck's upcoming thriller 'The Overton Window' Trailer

The Gods of the Copyright Headings by: Rudyard Kipling AS I PASS through my incarnations in every age and race, I make my proper prostrations to the Gods of the Market Place. Peering through reverent fingers I watch them flourish and fall, And the Gods of the Copybook Headings, I notice, outlast them all. We were living in trees when they met us. They showed us each in turn That Water would certainly wet us, as Fire would certainly burn: But we found them lacking in Uplift, Vision and Breadth of Mind, So we left them to teach the Gorillas while we followed the March of Mankind. We moved as the Spirit listed. They never altered their pace, Being neither cloud nor wind-borne like the Gods of the Market Place, But they always caught up with our progress, and presently word would come That a tribe had been wiped off its icefield, or the lights had gone out in Rome. With the Hopes that our World is built on they were utterly out of touch, They denied that the Moon was Stilton; they denied she was even Dutch; They denied that Wishes were Horses; they denied that a Pig had Wings; So we worshipped the Gods of the Market Who promised these beautiful things. When the Cambrian measures were forming, They promised perpetual peace. They swore, if we gave them our weapons, that the wars of the tribes would cease. But when we disarmed They sold us and delivered us bound to our foe, And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: "Stick to the Devil you know." On the first Feminian ...
